There was a season of dramatic smiles and laughter on the faces of health practitioners in Ogun State as they received lorries of health equipments handed over to them by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga.
Before the presentation and handing over of the equipments at the save one million lives scheme by the ministry of health, Mrs Onanuga alluded the success recorded so far in the health sector of the State to the various policies of the Government geared towards qualitative health care delivery as encapsulated in the five cardinal agenda of the Ibikunle Amosun led Administration.
She said the Araya health insurance scheme is presently catering for over 16000 mothers and infants below the age of five. She highlighted other achievements to include renovation and equipping of state cold rooms for vaccines, renovation of health centers, maternal newborn week among others assuring that 3.3million insecticide nets will be distributed to the residents of Ogun State in few weeks to come.
Onanuga however charged the health workers to live up to their duties, utilize and maintain the equipments. She enjoined the people of the state to continue to support the State by paying their taxes while appreciating the federal government and the partnering organizations.
Earlier in his speech, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, the Commissioner for Health said primary healthcare is a cornerstone of the health services, hence the focus on it.
He noted that it is expedient that all medical care must be met under a roof with the use of best facilities, targeting the most vulnerable, rural dwellers and the disadvantaged.
He commented that the State is achieving a higher rate of medical statistics above the apex statistics laid down by the federal government in all ramifications, charging the health workers to double their effort in order to surpass the present achievements.
We must make sure the equipments are well sterilized and utilized, a normal delivery will save thousands of lives, an umpteenth-time blood pressure measurement will save many moving corpses. The equipments might look small in sizes but they are mighty with quality”.
He submitted that the three ambulances will be situated in each of the Senatorial districts for rapid response while other equipments will be distributed to health centers according to needs.
In their separate address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Nafiu Aigoro and the Chairman, Forum of Medical Officers, Dr Solarin opined that the distribution of the equipments is unprecedented in primary health Care, they said most health workers never knew they will be going home with lorries of equipments, appreciating the Government for living up to her words. They said with the equipments, over a million lives will be saved.
Speaking on behalf of the Local Government and LCDA Chairmen, Hon Asalulola express the delight of the councils, he said the equipments will reassure the people of the various local governments and LCDAs of Governments commitment to qualitative Health care delivery.
